This policy explains what information The Law Easy collects when you use this website, why we collect it and what choices you have. It describes what the website actually does.
The short version
- You can read, watch and practise without an account.
- If you create an account, we store your name, your email address, your mobile number and a securely hashed password, plus the learning activity the student area saves for you.
- We use the cookies the website needs to work, plus Google Analytics cookies that help us count visits. We use no advertising cookies.
- We do not show ads, take payments or sell your data.
Information we collect
If you create an account
- Your name, email address and mobile number. We ask for your mobile number so that we can contact you about your account if email does not reach you. It is never shown publicly, shared with anyone, used for marketing or added to visitor analytics. You can ask us to change or delete it.
- Your password, stored only as a one-way hash. We cannot read your password.
- Basic account records, such as when the account was created.
Learning activity
When you are signed in, we store the activity that makes the student area work: your practice and mock test attempts and answers, bookmarks, personal notes, course and reading progress, and the pages you have recently viewed.
Messages you send us
If you use the contact form, we store your name, email address, subject and message so that we can reply. To help stop abuse of the form, we keep a one-way hashed form of your IP address with the message, not the address itself.
Server logs
Like most websites, our servers record technical details of requests, such as IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. We use them to keep the website secure and working and to investigate errors and abuse.
Site search
We record the words typed into the site search, without linking them to you or your account, so that we can improve search results.
Cookies
The website needs these cookies to work:
- a session cookie, which keeps you signed in as you move between pages and holds short-lived information such as form messages;
- a security (CSRF) cookie, which protects forms against cross-site request forgery;
- a "remember me" cookie, only if you tick "Remember me" when signing in.
We use Google Analytics through Google Tag Manager to count visits and understand which pages people use. This sets analytics cookies. They are named _ga and _ga_ followed by an identifier, and Google's standard settings keep them for up to about 400 days. Google receives information such as your IP address, browser and the pages you view, and handles it under Google's privacy policy. We do not use advertising or social media tracking cookies. You can block or clear these cookies in your browser, and the website still works without them.
YouTube videos and thumbnails
Our lectures are hosted on YouTube. Videos on this website use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), and the player loads only when you press play. Once you play a video, YouTube (Google) receives information such as your IP address and may set its own cookies, under Google's privacy policy. Video thumbnail images are loaded from YouTube's image servers. Links to our YouTube channel take you to YouTube, where Google's policies apply.
How we use information
- To provide your account and the student area: saved progress, bookmarks, notes and results.
- To reply to your messages.
- To send emails you need, such as password reset links. We do not send marketing emails.
- To keep the website secure, prevent abuse and fix problems.
- To improve our study material and search, using information that does not identify you.
What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent or trade personal information.
- We do not show advertisements.
- We do not take payments, so we hold no card or bank details.
- We do not send your account details, notes or messages to AI services. AI tools are used only for editorial work on study material.
Who can see your information
Your notes, bookmarks, attempts and results are private to your account. Our administrators can access account and website data when this is needed to run and support the website. Companies that host the website and deliver its email process data for us only to provide those services. Google processes the analytics data about visits to this website. We may disclose information where the law requires it.
How long we keep information
- Account and learning data: while your account exists. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete it together with the learning data linked to it.
- Contact messages: only as long as needed to deal with your message and any follow-up, and then deleted.
- Server logs: for a limited period for security and troubleshooting, and then deleted.
Deleted information may remain in backups for a limited time until those backups are replaced.
Your choices and rights
- You can use most of the website without giving us any personal information.
- You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it.
- You can ask us to delete your account and its data by emailing info@laweasy.in from your registered email address. We may need to confirm that the request comes from you.
- You can clear or block cookies in your browser. Signing in needs the session cookie.
Security
We protect information with measures such as encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, access controls and limits on repeated requests. No website can be completely secure, so please use a strong password that you do not use anywhere else.
Children
The Law Easy is designed for law students and other adults. If you are under 18, please do not create an account without the consent of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has given us personal information without that consent, contact us and we will delete it.
Indian law
We aim to handle personal information in line with Indian law, including the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the rules made under it, and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 as its provisions come into force.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and the date shown on it.
