How we measure visits (analytics notice)
Version 2026-11-01. This notice explains the optional, first-party analytics on The Law Easy. It is asked for separately, before anything is measured, and the whole website works the same if you say no.
What we measure, and why
| Data | Purpose |
|---|---|
| A random visitor id stored in a cookie on your device, and a visit id | To count visitors and visits correctly and to tell new from returning visitors |
| Your IP address | To estimate your approximate city and to protect the service from abuse. Stored encrypted and deleted after 30 days |
| Approximate country, state and city worked out from the IP address on our own server | To know where our students are. It is an estimate, never your exact location |
| Device type, operating system and browser (from your browser’s user-agent) | To make the site work well on the devices our students use |
| Pages opened, time actively spent on each page, entry and exit page, the website or campaign that brought you | To see which notes help students and improve them |
| Clicks on marked buttons and links (for example course buttons, PDF downloads, YouTube links, quiz start and completion). For searches, only that a search happened and how long it was — never the words | To improve navigation and learning tools |
| For YouTube videos on our pages: seconds actually played, pauses, skips and how much of the video was watched | To know which lectures are useful |
| Optional, separate: your device’s precise location (latitude, longitude, accuracy), shared once when you press “Share my precise location” | To see more exactly where our students study. Kept 30 days, encrypted |
| Optional, separate (signed-in students): a link between your visits and your account (name and email) | To see your learning activity together with your account. Off unless you switch it on |
We never record passwords, what you type into forms or search boxes, payment details or messages. We do not sell or share this data, do not use it for advertising, and do not try to identify you from your IP address. All of it is stored on our own server in India; the location estimate uses a database file on that server, so your IP address is not sent to any other company.
Children
We do not measure visitors under 18. Analytics can only be switched on by someone who confirms they are 18 or older. If you are under 18, please choose “Don’t allow”.
How long we keep it
- IP addresses: 30 days (a one-way code of the address for 90 days, for abuse protection).
- Precise location: 30 days.
- Visits, pages, clicks and video watch time: 13 months.
- A record of your consent choices, and a log of which administrators viewed personal data: 5 years, as proof required by law.
Your choices and rights
Open Privacy choices (also at the bottom of every page) to:
- allow or stop analytics at any time — stopping takes effect immediately;
- stop and delete everything measured for your browser;
- see the data stored for your browser;
- share or delete your precise location, and link or unlink your account.
You also have the rights given by the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023: access, correction and erasure of your data, grievance redressal and nomination. For any request or complaint, write to info@laweasy.in (subject “Data request”); we reply within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Videos
Videos are played from YouTube’s privacy-enhanced (youtube-nocookie) player and load only when you press play. Once playing, YouTube (Google) handles its own data under its privacy policy; our analytics only measures watch time on our pages.
